The Garden Place - Out & About

Boscastle is a typical Cornish-fishing village with quaint old cottages and a picturesque Elizabethan Harbour owned by the National Trust. The village nestles at the confluences of two-wooded river valleys on one of the most magnificent and dramatic parts of this rugged coastline and boasts many beautiful walks. The Three Church Walk (Minster, Lesnewth and St Juliots) provides a wonderful opportunity to discover some of the numerous old churches within the Boscastle area. Walking to them will take you through woods, valleys, bubbling brooks, and occasional glimpses of the sea!

Boscastle is a good place from which to explore the surrounding countryside, wide sandy beaches and small-secluded coves. The area has something for everyone whatever your interest. There are National Trust houses and gardens; the famous ' Lost Gardens of Heligan' and the exciting Eden Project are all within easy reach by car. Only a short distance away is the Camel Valley Vineyard where you can sample some excellent Camel Valley award winning English wines.

For the more active, there is a choice of venues for water sports, which include everything from sailing to wind surfing on inland waters or in the sea. A short car journey will take you to the sandy beaches good for surfing at Trebarwith, Crackington Haven, Polzeath and Widemouth Bay and to other sandy coves where you can sunbathe and swim.

There are a number of excellent golf courses. St Mellion designed by arguably the greatest golfer of all time Jack Nicklaus, is unquestionably the finest in Cornwall , takes about 35 minutes to get to. Horse riding stables are nearby and cycle hire shops at Padstow and Wadebridge are handy for cycling along the Camel Trail.

The area also has many fine fish restaurants and numerous places where you can purchase fresh local fish, lobsters and crabs (when in season).

Whilst in the are why not visit Wyldes Café which is in the coastal village of Tintagel , on the North Cornwall coastline famous for being King Arthur's legendary home. They believe in keeping dishes simple, but imaginatively put together, allowing the flavour and quality of Cornish produce and other fresh ingredients to speak for themselves.
